The skate board industry makes and sells the only action sports product that hasn’t evolved from wood to advance composite construction.  Not because they couldn’t be built, but because they didn’t want them to be built.

Years ago while we were building Wake Tech wake boards we introduced the first compression molded skateboards under the NBN (No Billy No) brand.  These boards were most unique because of the controlled flex pattern you can build into every board.  Wood decks have inconsistent flex patterns…no two trees are alike, wood grains are different and therefore no two decks are the same.  We built boards that could ollie higher, slide better and were stronger than anything available on the market at that time.  And when one of the largest skateboard companies in the world called and asked us to make sample composite decks for them to test, we thought we had it made!  When we saw the videos of the break testing and heard the feedback from the skaters (everything was great, except the price) we thought we would change the industry forever.  Until we got the company response….it went like this; “Chris, these are the greatest decks ever built. We’ll give you that, but we make decks for $5, sell them for $50 and when they break, they buy more.  We’ll do everything we can to keep these out of the market.”
